A New Skill

My adorable blue eyed little almost one year old learned something new today. It's a good one but I have to lead up to it....

So this morning I got the boys fed and settled and hopped in the shower. Riley came crawling right into the bathroom as he always does. He headed for the toilet to find I had thought ahead and put a loaded laundry basket on top. Darn, no playing in the toilet water. I watch him crawl over to the closet and try to open the trash can, but no I had that covered in a big pack of toilet paper and it wouldn't open. I shut the shower curtain and begin to lather, rinse and repeat. I hear the thud of knees on the floor and peek out of the curtain; he's heading for the step stool. He looks at it with a puzzled expression, I had flipped it upside down. With that he crawls back into the living room to attack his brother.

Ah ha!!!! I won!! I covered my bases and the bathroom was too boring and he left. Feeling victorious I return to the work at hand and soap up. I am in the process of soaping when I hear the familiar thump thump thump across the floor. He heads for the toilet, again, but knowing he can't open it I continue with my shower. And then I hear it.............

he flushed the toilet!!!!! As quick as I can I turn the shower head away from my body but my feet are not spared the boiling hot water shooting from it. I dance around the shower hoping and praying the cold will come back. I peek out of the curtain and see him doing it again and holding the handle down!!! The room is beginning to steam up, my feet are a shade of red I have never seen and my little stinker of a son looks up at me with the biggest ha ha smile you have ever seen and giggles. I reach out of the shower and grab his hand to pull him away from the toilet. I pull the hamper out of the corner and position it in front of the handle. I hop around the shower a little more, cursing old plumbing and finally hear the change in pitch of the water and gingerly reach over to test it...aaaahhhhhh.......it's cooled off again.

Phew, it was a great facial with all that steam but in the future I will remember that when you learn a new skill you want to practice it over and over. Oh and next time.....I WILL remember to pull the hamper in front of the handle. Hmmm......I wonder what else he'll find in there?

Wow Colleen-you'll have to make a list of things to do before getting into the shower before long! That's quite the routine to go through just to get clean! :)

Well my choices are to
A) not shower which isn't an option for me, I have to shower to feel human in the morning
B) get up early before Sadie leaves to shower
C)perform the "child proofing" techniques listed

So for now....I'll make a list :)

I don't have that problem, but every now and then Mikey will flush the toilet near his bedroom, and I never know he's done it until I am a red, blistered, mess.
